G.B. prostitution charge shows absurdity of prostitution laws
Brandon Underwood, defensive back for the Green Bay Packers, pleaded no contest to non-marital sexual intercourse prostitution charges. It looks possible that the woman who claimed that he sexually assaulted her, may have been trying to shake him down for more money because of his position. First of all, this shows the absurdity of prostitution laws. When it is illegal, it is unregulated and you will get more messes such as this. Second, why is the prostitution charge specifically non-marital?
Well, because they can't charge you with prostitution within a marriage if you give something of value for sex. That way an 80 year old man can give a neckless to his 25 year old wife and not be under a soliciting prostitution charge. It is time to rethink these laws (just as the drug laws) towards harm reduction and not punishment.
Prostitution is the only thing that is is illegal when done for money, that would not otherwise be illegal. It is a product of anti-adultery laws, that in some states are still in effect, including Wisconsin. The government has to get out of the sex lives of consenting adults. We've stopped arresting people for interracial sex, sex with people of the same gender, and we should stop with this.
