Timo’s next big appointment is his first-ever home Formula 1 race: the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.

Hockenheim is quite close to my hometown where I just spent the last 25 years and a lot of friends coming down and a lot of people I know; and I think that’s quite a special race and every time I’ve had really good races in Hockenheim, won a couple of times; it’s one of the best races in the year.

Timo is a track animal I would say. Really he is somebody who is very motivated and very target orientated of what he wants to achieve and I like to compare him to a terrier because he is somebody, I think, he, when he bites somewhere, he is not gonna let go before he has achieved what he wants to do.

He’s recently moved from his family home in Hessen to Cologne, so he can be close to the Panasonic Toyota Racing factory and the engineers who are dedicated to improving his car.

First of all the team is based in Koln and for me it was important to get as much information as possible; I think it’s much easier when you live just five minutes away from the company or you have to fly for two-hours to Köln to be here at the team.

I mean the mechanics are just really good guys - and they work nearly 24-hours for a driver and it’s just really good to have such good mechanics behind you because every time you go out into free practice or into qualifying or the race, you have a car that is just 100% sorted out and at the end we have quite a lot of fun at the race weekend and at the tests and that’s important.
