Getting Set For Joliet, Motley Crue, and Family Fun
Your thoughts on how things went at Norwalk and how you’re preparing for Joliet.
We made a lot of changes to the car before Norwalk. What we did to the car, especially the clutch, we thought was working not too bad for a while. We qualified #3 and in the second round we were outrunning people, were where we needed to be , so we were pretty happy with that. What happened to us in the semi finals is still a bit of a mystery. Guido and I went over it again just a couple of hours ago and we don’t think we did anything wrong. We’d do the same things if we had to do it over again, so we just have to chalk it up to being “ one of those things”.
We didn’t do all that well at Joliet last year, but Joliet’s a nice facility and if the weather’s good the track can be really fast. One thing about this weekend is that we’ve got two night qualifiers when the weather’s a bit cooler, and then Sunday we’ll be racing in the heat of the day. That means we’ll really have to adjust from the qualifiers to Sunday.
With the 4th of July and a couple of weeks off between races what did the Douglas family do for fun and relaxation?
My treat was that I got to see Motley Crue Saturday night. Growing up as a teenager in the late 80’s I’m into that kind of music. I guess I’m a metal head and I like that hard rock, so I dragged my wife to the concert though it’s not her favorite stuff and we had a great time.
Later on the weekend we all went to a ballgame to see the Indianapolis Indians play the Toledo Mudhens and saw fireworks at night, so it was just a great way to recharge the batteries. My son went to a birthday party for Antron Brown’s son who turned 8 so they had a lot of fun over there too.
Then Tuesday it was right back at it getting the cars ready. Unfortunately one of our crew members had a death in the family and he had to go and look after a few things so Guido and I spent a lot of time in the blower room getting caught up on what he’d been doing, getting superchargers ready for John and Courtney. We’re confident going into the weekend and Courtney’ll be running Monday after the Joliet races.
