Goalie Arek Onyszko Plays Match With A Tracking Ankle Bracelet
Goalkeeper Arkadiusz (Arek) Onyszko who plays for Danish soccer club Midtjylland was goaltending his last match against Brøndby wearing a tracking ankle bracelet. Onyszko was charged with the beating of his ex-wife and received a 30-day sentence. Onyszko was allowed to play, but was forced to wear a bracelet that tracks his whereabouts at all times. He is not allowed to move outside the stadium for the duration of his sentence. It is the first time that a soccer player was allowed to play with a tracking bracelet.
Onyszko was convicted in June of assaulting his ex-wife. He was subsequently released by his club, Odense, but later signed by FC Midtjylland.
On Thursday, a majority in parliament indicated it was in favour of allowing convicted criminals to serve the final six months of their jail sentence outside prison as long as they wear an ankle monitor.
