Goat of the Day: Matt Holliday
Matt Holliday had a bad day at work. It was just his misfortune that it happened in a crucial postseason game in front of 51,819 rabid Dodger fans rooting like crazy for an unbelievable comeback.
With two outs in the 9th, Cardinals 2, Dodgers 1, Holliday dropped a hard liner hit right at him by Dodger lefty James Loney. It wasn't necessarily an easy play that every Little Leaguer would make, but definitely one that you would hope to see a millionaire pro athlete make 100 out of 100 times.
St. Louis fans are famous for being forgiving and disdain the East coast mentality of cheer if you rock, jeer if you stink. Game 3 is Saturday in St. Louis, so the fans will have one more day to replay the event over and over in their minds. The moment of truth will come when they announce Holliday's name over the PA system and the fans can finally choose to cheer or jeer. I say they cheer because they are truly the best fans in the world.
"It's tough to swallow," Holliday said. "Obviously, I feel terrible. But I just missed the ball. It hit my stomach. I think I can catch a ball hit right at me."
