Erie Community College Basketball Is Hoping God's Gift Achiuwa Lives Up To His Name And Maybe Be Better Than God Shammgod

LeBron James maybe King but God's Gift Achiuwa is, well, God's Gift to basketball - at least Division Three basketball in Western New York.
God's Gift Achiuwa, that's right his name is God's Gift Achiuwa (and no, God is not his nickname) is a Nigerian born basketball player for Erie Community College in the NCAA's Western New York Athletic Conference.

The Nigeria native's father is a minister, so the first name he chose for his son is a reflection of the family's devout religious beliefs."His name is the first thing that anyone asks about when they meet him," Erie coach Alex Nwora said by phone. "Everyone thought it was a nickname or something, but that's his real name. Fortunately, he's a religious kid, so he likes it."

God's Gift Achiuwa is a pretty mean basketball player too. God's Gift stands 6 foot 9 and apparently has grabbed the attention of St. John's University.
God’s Gift Achiuwa, a forward on the Erie Community College men’s basketball team, was recognized by the Western New York Athletic Conference as its co-Freshman Athlete of the Year.

Achiuwa previously was named a Third Team All-American by the NJCAA and was Co-Region III Player of the Year after leading Erie to a 27-2 record in 2009-10. He averaged 13 points, 13.4 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game during his freshman campaign.

By the way, God's Gift Achiuwa is not the first basketball player to have the word "God" in his name. That honor belongs to God Shammgod who played for the Washington Wizards in the 1997-1998 season

Please note that God's Gift plays Division II Junior College basketball at this time.  At the end of the season, he will probably play at least midmajor Division I basketball, but for now he is not affiliated with the NCAA.
