Golfer John Daly Says He Is Retiring From The Sport
American golfer John Daly, 44, says he is retiring from the sport. Daly missed the cut at Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego on Friday. It is not clear if missing the cut has provoked Daly to call it quits, or if the decision to retire was premeditated.
"I'm done," said a forlorn Daly in the Torrey Pines parking lot. "Just can't play like I used to. ... I'm tired of embarrassing myself."
However, Daly spoke of his retirement before. He threatened to quit golf after the Buick Open tournament in 2009. He is currently shooting "Being John Daly" reality show that will be aired on Golf Channel. Daly became the youngest active player on the PGA Tour in 1990. He won the British Open in 1995 and has five PGA tour wins in total. Daly has had problems with alcoholism and gambling in recent years. In 1993, he was disqualified for walking away from the Kemper Open. He also quit in the middle of Kapalua International. Daly was treated for alcoholism after the incidents. Daly also admitted to losing $50-$60 million to gambling in the past 15 years.
Aside from golf, Daly is also a song writer and a performer. He recorded his own album titled "My Life."
