Whistler Blackcomb represents everything that an avid boarder like myself could hope for. It has seemingly endless acreage, glaciers, a world renowned terrain park and on top of that a great night life to relax after a hard day on the slopes. There are also a few new developments to the world class ski location this winter that is worth checking out including the Olympic infrastructures and the new Peak to Peak gondola

PEAK 2 PEAK grand opening, green power project and 2010 Games countdown set the stage for an unprecedented winter.

On December 12, 2008, the dream to link Whistler and Blackcomb mountains becomes a reality with the grand opening of the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola. The world-record breaking gondola is the first lift of its kind in North America and is destined to become Canada’s newest tourism icon. During the winter, skiers and riders will enjoy infinite opportunities to experience the side-by-side mountains. In the summer, the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola will bring sightseers and hikers into the high alpine to experience breathtaking scenic views of Garibaldi Provincial Park. Spanning 4.4 kilometres (2.73 miles) in total distance from mountain to mountain, the Doppelmayr 3S tri-cable gondola boasts the world’s longest unsupported span of 3.024 kilometres (1.88 miles), as well as the world’s highest lift of its kind at 436 metres (1,427 feet) above the valley floor.

Looking forward to 6th annual visit to Whistler in February 2009. Hoping for powder and lots of good glade skiing on Whistler mountain. Can't wait to try to the new peak to peak gondola for fast access to 7th Heaven and upper Blackcomb!

I'll be avoiding the peak-to-peak, though will most likely not be avoiding the inevitable face-plant. Gravity can be ice-cold.

From my first-ever day of snowboarding. This shot was taken while sitting on my butt after one of at least 6,000 heinous falls, stacks, bails, and face-plants. It was like getting beaten up by a yeti.

I heard sketchy things about the foundation that the peak to peak gondola is anchored too, something about eroding rock bed.

Sounds spectacular.  I don't like the sound of eroding rock bed though.  I think I'll let others try it out first.

I believe my husband actually took the picture that I have contributed.  The 4 days previous were white-outs or near white-outs.  By the time the sun came out, he was on the slopes and I was wandering around the village.  As someone else noted, gravity cannot be overcome, and my thumb was a constant reminder of that.  :)

Hope everyone enjoys the slopes!  We probably won't get up there again until after the Olympics.
