Hank Baskett Super Bowl Drop: Onside Kick at Super Bowl (Video)
Hank Baskett likely does not want to see the video of himself dropping the ball on the New Orleans Saints bold onside kick during Super Bowl 44. But in age of youtube the Hank Baskett Super Bowl Drop will live on forever which leads us to actual call that the New Orleans head coach made to kick off the second half.
That Sean Payton has got some guts, doesn't he? To start off the second half of Super Bowl 44, the New Orleans recovered an offside kick. The New Orleans Saints onside kick marked the first time a team attempted an offside kick before the fourth quarter of a Super Bowl.
That Sean Payton may have been gutsy, but his special teams unit was even gutsier. The Saints and the Colts got into a hellacious scrum for the ball. God only knows what kind of nastiness went on in that pile.
So who recovered the Saints onside kick? The official NFL box score says Jonathan Casillas came up with the ball. The New Orleans Times-Picayune stated it was Chris Reis ended up recovering the onside kick. Regardless, Saints went on to score their first touchdown of Super Bowl 44.
Here is the New Orleans Onside Kick at Super Bowl 44 video.

No, you're wrong. Coming from a Stillers fan I thought I recalled an onside kick also, but I checked. Super Bowl XXX play-by-play: Third quarterPittsburgh (15:00)Boniol kick to P 15, out of bounds. Ball placed 30 yards from spot of kickoff.

The surprise onside in Super Bowl XXX came with 11:43 left in the game after a Norm Johnson FG. Even though it was in the 4th quarter, it was just as ballsy as the Saints kick. If the Saints don't recover that kick, they're only down 4 points and have an entire half to recover. The Steelers were down 10 points with under 12 minutes left; they really couldn't afford to give up any more points.

Seems that everyone is getting this wrong. Actually, Steelers kicker Matt Bahr attempted an onside kick after Pittsburgh's first score midway through the first quarter of Super Bowl XIV. You will see it listed as a "short kick" in play-by-play transcripts, but if you watch the video, you'll see it was a lofted onside kick. Even announcer Pat Summerall calls it an onside kick. The Rams recovered.

Once again the referee's failed the fans... this was clearly colt's during a re-run on TiVo, but for some reason underneath the pile the colts lost possesion.

Baskett not only muffed the onside kick, he had the ball stripped away from him in the scrum. The ball went between the legs of the Saints player on the ground and the video clearly shows ol' Hank reaching in and grabbing the ball, but when the refs finally unpiled the scrum it was Saints ball. I would think that Hank had enough practice grabbing Kendra's DD bazoongas (which will soon be mine after she dumps his ass for blowing the SB) that he could hold on to the rock.
