Hello again. I’m back on the blog before we head west for our three-race Western Swing starting at Denver this weekend and then going to Sonoma and finishing up in Seattle. If you’re a true Nitroholic, this is a great three weeks for you. The Western Swing is a fun three-week grind and very grueling on the NHRA teams. Not only do we race in very different conditions, but have to drive a long distance to each race. We start at our most challenging track on the circuit, Bandimere Speedway, near Denver. Bandimere is more than a mile-high and racing these 8,000 horsepower dragsters and Funny Cars is challenging at sea level. We have to make a lot of mechanical adjustments to the tune-up of the car to make them run at the high elevation. We’re fortunate to have superchargers on the nitro cars to compensate for the lack of oxygen. It’s really a challenge for the Pro Stock and naturally aspirated cars to perform on the mountain. It’s no different than if you went for a run on the beach and then at high elevation. It’s harder on your body with less oxygen in the air.

We were fortunate enough to win at Denver two years ago back in 2009 when we went on to sweep the Western Swing. To date, that was the highlight of my racing career. There have only been a handful of drivers to accomplish it, so to be mentioned with champions like Force, Schumacher and Dixon is very cool.

Our DSR Matco Tools team wants to get off on a strong start this weekend. This is the 12th race on the 2011 NHRA schedule and we’ve been to the final round at race three, six and nine, so we hope to continue that pattern on Sunday at Bandimere. The Western Swing is also where the Tool Up and Win contest with Matco Tools really kicks in. If you’re a Matco customer and you got a scratch-off that has Denver, Sonoma or Seattle on it, you have a chance to win a leather jacket, tool box or trip to the Auto Club Finals at Pomona in November. If we win, you win, so we’ll do our best to make all you Matco Tools customer’s winners with us on the Western Swing.

I’m flying into Denver today and then meeting up with Zak from the NHRA to do a media/press tour in Colorado Spring to promote the race. Then we have our annual DSR sponsor dinner with Gates Belts & Hose in Lakewood, CO. Gates is a long-time supporter of DSR and puts on a great dinner for the entire team each year before the Denver race. With all the stuff going at the house, I’m actually going to fly back and forth rather than stay on the road for almost three weeks. With the home projects calming down, finally, I want to get them finished up real soon. The garage is looking great and our new entry way and front door look fantastic on the house. I’m really happy with how everything has turned out.

Well that’s it for now. Make sure you check us out on ESPN2 this weekend and the next three weeks. It should be fun and could really shake-up the points standings before the Countdown to 1 begins at Charlotte in a few months. Thanks for reading and God bless.
