High School Football Player Dies in Game: Team Mourns Jake Logue
Jake Logue, a high school football player from Kingsport, TN, died during a game last Friday. Logue collapsed on the field during the third quarter of Sullivan South High School's season opener.
Team trainers tried to help him as did several doctors in the crowd also came onto to the field to try to help Jake Logue. Firefighters arrived on the scene and Logue was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11 pm Friday night. A Knoxville fire department official claimed that Jake Logue went into cardiac arrest.
Jake Logue was a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive linemen who was considered one of the best lineman in the state and was an All-Northeast Tennessee pick. He helped the Rebels win their fourth consecutive Mountain Lakes Conference title.
On Monday morning, grief counsellors and pastors were sent to Sullivan South High School to help students cope with the loss of their classmate.
A memorial service for Jake Logue will be held at Sullivan South High School gymnasium on Wednesday at 7 pm.

Actually, Jake was from Kingsport, TN and was a senior on the Sullivan South High School football team that was playing West High School in Knoxville, TN. Such a tragedy but the support from West High to South High has been incredible. Two schools, 90 miles apart, have mourned together.

I go to South. I've gone to school with Jake since elementary school. None of the stories I have read online or seen on the news have done justice to the situation. It's tragic. If you all could see the suffering of our school right now, you would be amazed. Jake meant so much to so many people. Our entire school is mourning this great loss. It was tough when we lost a classmate last year-the result of a car wreck. No disrespect to him whatsoever, but in that case, we knew what happened. We had answers. With Jake, there aren't any real answers. Eighteen year olds don't drop dead playing high school football. It's not right. It's not fair. We don't understand why this has happened, and most of us aren't coping well. Some teachers seemed to think that after giving us an easy day Monday that we would bounce right back and be ready to start up classes again. Even though I understand that they have to teach and keep things as normal as possible, it just doesn't seem right. We're hurting so bad. No one can concentrate on tests...or anything else for that matter. It's been a tough week, and I honestly don't expect things to get much better anytime soon. The memorial service is tonight and it will be an awful night for everyone attending. Our game againt the Greeneville Green Devils is Friday night...It will be hard on the guys to be on the field without Jake, but at the same time, they all say they're going to win this one for him. We have an angel on our side now, the Devils don't stand a chance.

rebelgirl is completely right..i go to db, the rival school of south, and everyone has put that stupid school rival crap aside. i can't even imagine the pain youre going through, i didnt go to db hen jon metcalf did so i havent experienced it firsthand. everyone is praying for the people at south and i think about it all the time. this is incredibly tragic, but the only comfort you can have is knowing that he was a Christian and he is with his creator now..my heart goes out to everyone at south and everyone who knew him directly(for i did not), and you're all in everyones thoughts and prayers..and please come out of this and go undefeated this year...do it for jake. thats what he'd want

it's so horrible that south has lost yet another amazing person. i met zach once, and he was really nice. i didnt know jake, but i know people who knew him and say he was a great guy. i also knew jon metcalf's sister and his mother was my 3rd grade teacher. they're whole family are amazing people. i cannot even begin to imagine what jake's family is going through, or his friends and the whole school even. i wish the best to everyone who knew him and believe me when i say, it will get better. he will always be missed and never forgotten.
