Australia have been quite ruthless in their campaign so far and until now have looked a class above their opponents. South Africa had a prosperous start to the tournament in the group stages but suffered a painful defeat to the hands of Pakistan. With the Proteas hurting and desperate to make amends and Australia in terrific form, this tie promises to display some high intensity cricket.

George Bailey's side is currently on top of the points table with a high net run rate and a win against the South Africans could more or less seal their place in the semi finals. On the other hand, for the Proteas every game from here will be a matter of survival, if they lose now then they could run the risk of being ousted from the tournament.

Team News

Australia: So far this Australian side has had no real issues in the batting department, owing to the fact that the openers have been in fabulous form. The only dodgy affair with this side looks to be its bowling department. Against the West Indies, the bowling line up did go for quite a few. Seeing the way South Africa struggled against Pakistan's spinners, there is no doubt that Brad Hogg will be extremely effective. There will also be a slight temptation to play an extra spinner against the Proteas to really pile on the pressure. With the batting going so strong, perhaps Bailey can think about adding more value to the bowling department by replacing a batsman with a bowler, Xavier Doherty for Glenn Maxwell perhaps.

Australia have been so good until now that they haven't even required the services of a spectacular T20 player, David Hussey. David does add a lot to the side especially with the experience he brings in, however, in all likelihood there will not be too much chopping and changing.

South Africa: The morale of AB de Villiers and his men would have been severely affected after the way they lost to Pakistan. Now is the time for South Africa to show that this side is different from the ones that have choked before. The Proteas really need to step up in order to survive in this tournament.

South Africa's batting department seemed to be the area of concern in the previous encounter. Faf du Plessis was left out of the playing XI in the game against Pakistan and the lapse in the batting might just see him come in to the side. Robin Peterson, du Plessis replacement, played a big role in getting the Proteas into a winning position in their last match and that particular factor should keep him in the side as well. As it stands then, du Plessis should probably come in for Farhaan Behardein in order to strike the right balance.

Apart from that, there shouldn't be too many changes to the South African line up.

Quote:

de Villiers on using spin early against Australia: "It's a very positive thing for us to bowl spinners in the first six overs and then we have seen the results come through like that. Against the Australians, it's not a bad game plan."
