Historic welcome for Wanjiru in the Village
Nyahururu, Kenya: 200km North of Nairobi city, is where a small cold town in the hill, Nyahururu lies and for the last two days it has been a bee hive of activities as the residents prepare to receive the Beijing Olympics Men's marathon champion Samuel Wanjiru.
The 21 year old world class star is expected to arrive in the town tomorrow Saturday ,30 August after meeting President Mwai Kibaki today in the coastal city of Mombasa. The ceremony will take place in Nyahururu stadium where he has beeen training .
Hundreds of goats, cows and chicken have been slaughtered in readiness for a historic welcoming ceremony with thousands expected line up along the town streets to see the gold medal from one of their own.
Nyahururu town has been the hub training centre in the country due to its high altitude. Several of the Kenyan olympians spent their key training sessions in the town stadium which has been one of the best maintained facilities in the region.
Wanjiru for instance was seen a number of times fine tuning his muscles in the stadium a few days from the Olympics.
