History still Overcast but flying high in Aluminum
Aluminum Overcast coming to an airport near you.
To get a flight in a WWII aircraft is a memory I will never forget. The B-17 G Flying Fortress was built in Burbank California back in 1945. I’ve flown in all sorts of aircraft from civilian to private and high performance Military jets and this experience was incredible like no other!!. This craft has been service with EAA since 1994 giving rides to the public. It’s still amazing the technology behind a plane built so tough to still be in flying condition after 65 years!! Crew chiefs Meredeth Willcock and Glen Hill work their shift for the next two weeks keeping her airborne. For every hour of flying we do it takes five hours maintenance on the ground which turns out to be about 1600 hours of work per year.
Pilot Kent Holiday and Co-pilot George Daubner take us on a tour over the Oxnard and Ventura coast line and what a view. The sound, the smell of aviation gas and the cramped passage ways the crew had to get through!! George also flies the antique Ford Tri-plane which gave him experience toward the B-17, as a corporate pilot these old craft let you really get a feel for flying the old fashion way!!
Keep an eye to the sky for Aluminum Overcast coming to an Airport near you and experience for yourself what it was like sixty five years ago flying over the country side!!
