Noel Valladares is being criticized by the Honduran press and sports authorities for his lackluster role as the goalkeeper for his national team and his team Olympia.

Olympia is one of the teams in the Honduran National League. The popular newspaper El Heraldo went as far as dedicating 2 pages to his performance.

The newspaper added insult to injury in a review of Honduras' loss to Peru 2 to 1 in a CONMEBOL [Central and South American Cup Match] played in Miami Florida.

Possible Replacements for Valladares

Ricardo Canales is a possible replacement for Noel Valladares since he "is more effective with regard to aerial play." Canales is a player for the Montagua club in Honduras. Montagua is in first place in the Honduran National League with 35 points followed by Olympia with 31 points.

El Heraldo also suggested Donis Escobar [another player for Olympia] for his role in the shut out against Real Madrid.

Carlos Prono is another ex-player for Olympia and sportscaster who has calling for Valladares' replacement.

Juan Carlos Nunez,  a popular sports reporter in Honduras, added his voice to the growing number of people who are calling for the replacement of Valladares as the 2010 World Cup nears. Honduras is in Group H along with Spain, Switzerland, and Chile.
