Suazo is a dangerous surname to have going into this tournament, as Chile's Humberto Suazo and Honduras' David Suazo are both suffering from injuries; either or both may experience the opening game from the bench.
Both teams are basically fighting to see who will advance along with Spain, who are tipped to lead Group H. This is Honduras' second World Cup finals appearance, having last qualified in 1982 before squeaking through the qualifiers for this year's tournament.
Chile appears for the eighth time, but carry a black mark on their record: goaltender Roberto Rojas got hit with a lifetime ban after faking a head injury in the qualifying matches for 1990.
Players to watch
Wilson Palacios v Matias Fernandez
Despite the knocks and niggles that have cast a cloud of uncertainty over the encounter, both teams have their playmakers intact and ready to assume creative duties. For Honduras that job falls to Wilson Palacios, who is normally a defensive midfielder at club level with Tottenham Hotspur. Chile's string-pulling should be done by Matias Fernandez of Sporting Lisbon, though given the doubts surrounding Suazo and fellow forwards Alexis Sanchez and Esteban Paredes, Bielsa could also bring in fellow schemer Jorge Valdivia in a more advanced role.
