Houston Dynamo down D.C United 1-0; Will face Portland on Tuesday
Coming off their 1-0 win over D.C. United in the inaugural game at BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday, the Houston Dynamo will hope to take their home winning streak to two games when they take on the Portland Timbers on Tuesday evening.
The Dynamo won their first game in their new stadium in the 67th minute when Brad Davis connected from 30-yards out on a straight shot to the goal.
The fans at BBVA Compass Stadium whet wild and seemed to help keep Portland off kilter, as they were unable to find the goal to ultimately give Houston their first win n five games.
The heat, along with facing a Dynamo squad that had not played a home game since the fall, definitely had a factor in the match.
Davis’ goal in the home opener was his 25th goal for the Dynamo and made him the third player in team history to reach 25 scores.
Brian Ching leads the team with 64 goals, followed by Dwayne DeRosario with 32.
The Dynamo extended its streak to 6-0-1 over D.C. United with the win.
Houston kept continued offensive pressure on D.C.; outshooting them 20-4 in the match.
In Tuesday’s upcoming game against Portland, they will be taking on a Timbers team that has won only two games this season.
The Dynamo defeated the Timbers in both meetings with the expansion club in 2011. Houston won 2-1 on August 14 and 2-0 on October 14.
The Dynamo will be without the services of three players on Tuesday.
Defender Kofi Sarkodie is out with a sprained left foot, while goalkeeper Erick Marscheider has a right shoulder sprain and forward Brian Ownby has a left elbow dislocation
Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Houston.
