Houston Dynamo to face Sporting Kansas City in two-game playoff
BBVA Compass Stadium will host it’s first-ever MLS playoff game on Sunday afternoon when the Houston Dynamo face off against Sporting Kansas City in an Eastern Conference Semifinal series.
Two games will be played in the semifinal series with the combined point total from both gamed used to determine which team will advance to the next round.
The second game of the series will be played Wednesday, November 6 in Kansas City.
Sporting Kansas City, which is the top seed in the Eastern Conference, sports an 18-7-9 record with 63 points.
Houston, on the other hand, is the fifth seed and had to win a crucial game over the Chicago Fire this past Wednesday evening to secure their spot in the playoffs.
The Dynamo are 14-9-11 with 53 points and have reminded unbeaten at home this season.
The two teams have faced each other three times this season with the Dynamo coming out on top 2-1 on July 18 meeting.
The other two matches ended in non-scoring ties.
Rain may play an important factor in the game with heavy downpours occurring around the Houston area since Saturday afternoon.
The Weather Channel forecast calls for slightly clearing skies by game time, with a 20% chance of rain still possible.
On Saturday, Texas Southern University was playing Arkansas-Pine Bluff in Southland Conference football game at BBVA Compass Stadium when the game was halted and the stands cleared due to severe weather.
That was a first time occurrence in the inaugural season of the stadium.
The game resumed after a one hour delay.
