On June 26, 2012, Plans For a New College Football Four-Team Playoff System Were Unveiled. How Will The New Four-Team System Work? Here are Details
It's official: college football will feature a four-team playoff system. On Tuesday, June 26, 2012, college football editions approved of a four-team seeded playoff and two semifinal games.
How Will the College Football Four-Team Football System Work?
The four teams that will take part in the new college playoff system will be chosen by a selection committee, not unlike the one that decides who goes to the NCAA basketball tournament.
Those four teams will play in two semi-final games. Those two semi-finals will rotate annually among six bowl games. Exactly which six bowls are included has yet to be determined.
The winner of each semi-final will meet in the National Championship game, which will "go to the highest bidder."
When Will the College Football Four-Team Playoff System be Implemented?
Not any time soon. The new playoff system will go into place for the 2014 NCAA college football season.
