Hypocrisy Thy Name is Sports Fan
Lately all these sports stars have gotten in trouble and people have been very critical of their behavior. Whethers it's Rick Petino's "indescretion" with a woman in a restaurant, or the laundry list of MLB players who tested positive for steriods. Let me ask you this, why when they mess up are they crucifed and people want their blood? But when you make a mistake you're only and it won't happen again. Does fame and fortune equal morality?
If you have ever cheated or know someone who cheated on their wife and you didn't, you no longer have the right to say what Petino did was horrible or shameful. If it was okay when you did it, or if you didn't care your friend did it, why isn't okay for someone who just happens to be famous to do it? Would you want people saying how you got off easy and wanting your blood if you were Donte Stallworth? Yes his drunk driving killed an innocent man, and he's been punished. Who are you to say he got off easy? The judge felt like it was a sufficient, would you want the same things said if it was you in that position. There's no excuse for what he did but he's paying for it, likely for the rest of his life.
Then theres steriods. Let me ask you this, if there was a way for you to do your job better than everbody else (thus make more money) and it's NOT illegal, would you think twice? I wouldn't, I'd have more needles in me than an emo pin cushion. So why do we hold baseball players to a higher standard? Now that it's against the rules if they get caught they deserve punishment, but before 2003 when MLB was a veritable no man land when it came to PEDs who can blame players for doing it.
Even those that got leaked from the governments list are'nt treated equally. Alex Rodriguez was treated like a mass murderer for being on the list and than admiting to it, but David Ortiz says he does'nt know how he got on the list and people are inclined to believe him. Yes MLB and the Players Association said all the names on the list did'nt test positive, but why does that mean Ortiz is telling the truth? Does it have to do with the fact Big Papi (Ortiz) is more of a well liked guy than A-Rod (Rodriguez)? Is a nice guy less likely to cheated than a less likeable guy?
Money, fame and likeability don't make you a better person. If they did than monks wouldn't make a vow of poverty. Let's face it people make mistakes whether its Joe Paterno or Joe Blowe. Social Standing don't change that. Ted Bundy was a great neighbor who did lots for the community. Michael Jackson (RIP) had all the money and fame in the world. Both commited horrible and heinous acts (one only allegedly did).
