About 76 minutes into the day's play, VVS Laxman took an outswinger from outside off and flicked it to the right of mid-on. He has won India Tests in between, but this brought up his first hundred in more than 15 months. There couldn't have been a more fitting way to bring up a deserved century. Around him India chugged along at a swift pace even though batting seemed much more difficult on the second morning. There was a bit of variable bounce on offer, the new ball moved around in the humidity and under overcast skies, and Yuvraj Singh scratched around for 25. Even as MS Dhoni looked to attack, Kemar Roach got him twice off no-balls. India added 87 in a 100-minute session, curtailed because bad light suspended play at around 10.40am.
On his beloved Eden Gardens strip, Laxman batted on unaffected, by lunch reaching 1147 runs in Kolkata, at an average of 104.27. Fidel Edwards started the day with a 7-2 field to him. Laxman waited and waited until he bowled one straight, and flicked it for four through midwicket.Watch Live Score

Yuvraj went quicker at the other end, but was uncertain. He pushed tentatively at the first ball of the day, getting four for it, he then top-edged a pull for four, later copped one on the shoulder after taking his eyes off a bouncer, proceeding to edge Darren Sammy past slip before finally falling lbw to Sammy. He walked back a dejected man, a man who knows he can't afford too many uncertain innings at this crucial stage of his Test career.
Out walked a man with declaration on his mind. He lofted the third ball he faced over mid-on. Laxman was already in his 90s by then, and went to the hundred in the most Laxman of fashions. Intent was clear in the way Dhoni played, in the process swinging hard to Kemar Roach and edging him twice. The second no-ball was bigger than first. With light fading, India kept looking for quick runs to give themselves as much time as possible. West Indies did the smart thing then, asking their bowlers to bowl bouncers, leaving the umpires no option but to take an early lunch.
