India and Australia drew the first of the four test matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The series stands at 0-0.

Scorecard

Although the match was drawn, both sides would like to take the credits away from this game. Australia will like to say that they ran the Indians close on their home turf and that the Indian spinners were not that effective. Maybe that is true but then on retrospection, they might not get another opportunity to be in a winning position in the remainder of the series. They do not have a full time spinner and thus will always struggle to get 20 Indian wickets. The batting did fire this time but wait until a square turner at Delhi or Mohali and the story may be a bit different there.

For India, there were a few bright spots, the major one being that they saved the test, as they otherwise have a poor record doing so on the last day. Even better is the fact that all Kumble doesn’t look the part anymore, be it with bowling or captaincy and with a half fit leader and main spinner, how long and hard will the Indian challenge last.

The second test begins in four days and it promises to be an even more gripping affair.
