 Sehwag (38) and Gautam Gambhir shared a solid 77-run stand for the first wicket after New Zealand were bundled out for 248 in their second innings. 

 Resuming the day, New Zealand could add just 16 runs to their overnight total of 232/9. 

 Jeetan Patel was dismissed for 22 by Zaheer Khan when he edged a delivery to wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for an easy catch, while Trent Boult finished the innings on 4 not out.

 India scored 353 in their first innings in reply to New Zealand's 365.

 India won the first test in Hyderabad by an innings and 115 runs.
