Final Score at end of Day’s Play: India 288/9. Key Performers – Sourav Ganguly: 87, VVS Laxman: 50, Yuvraj Singh: 32, MS Dhoni: 32 and Dale Steyn who bowled exceptionally for 3 wickets.

During the Ahmedabad test I was all for playing wickets that gave you home advantage like all teams/countries do. But this Kanpur wicket was an absolute trench; and this by the second day. It’s almost getting to the stage where it’s dangerous to play on. Rahul Dravid got a nasty one on his wrist which led to his dismissal. Apart from all that, an absolute treat of a day’s play with VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh at their best and Dhoni showing a return (which began in the last test match) to playing positive attacking cricket. There was also a heated moment of sledging between Yuvraj Singh and Dale Steyn into which Ganguly got drawn in – waggling his finger like he did to Stuart Broad in the 2007 England series. Yuvraj almost walked back into Steyn who was pulled away by Graeme Smith who also took him off the attack. Remarkable bowling by Steyn on a day that would wilt a desert carcass.
