Cousin of Vijender Singh, Balwinder Beniwal, lived up to expectations as Indian boxers shone in the rings with three gold and one silver in the third Commonwealth Youth Games on Friday at Pune.

It was Nanao Singh Thokchom of Army Sports Institute who opened the account knocking out Zack Davies of Wales 25-10 in 48kg category.

But it was Shanthosh Virothu of Andhra Pradesh who made the country proud as the Visakhapatnam boxer battled high fever to out-punch Jonker Alexander of South Africa 16-4. Sixteen-year-old Shanthosh is also an ASI cadet having won 40th Junior Men National Boxing at Warangal in October last year.
