Indonesian woman sprinter wins 2nd position in Australian championship

Brisbane (ANTARA News) - Indonesian woman sprinter Dedeh Erawati emerged second in the 100-meter heat in the 86th Australian Championship which ended here the Queensland Sports Athletic Centre (QSAC on Saturday.

In the event with nine Australians, Japanese, Indonesians and New Zealanders taking part, Dedeh clocked 13.72 seconds after Andrea Miller of New Zealand who clocked 13.56 seconds. Third was Mami Ishino of Japan with 13.91 seconds.

Indonesia fielded runners in the competitions starting February 28, spokesman for the event Michael Cook said on Sunday.

The event, he said, also served as a tryout and a selection for Australian athletes who were selected for the August 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Another Indonesia woman athlete, Rose Herlinda Inggriana, who competed in the women`s hammer`s throw, only secured 10th position.

The Australian athletes include Craig Mottram, Scott Martin, Steve Hooker, Bronwyn Thompson, Tamsyn Lewis and Matt Shirvington. (*) END
