Sunday October 2, 2011 saw a match between two Basque sides: Athletic Bilbao vs Real Sociedad. The first of two Basque derbies saw Athletic beat Real Sociedad 2-1 in San Sebastian.

The highlight of the Liga Primera game was a crazy midfield goal from Real Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez. Early in the second half of the Athletic Bilbao-Real Sociedad game, Martinez shot a laser at net from midfield. The shot caught Bilbao keeper Gorka Iraizoz out of position and sailed into the net.

The Inigo Martinez goal tied the game at 1-1. Athletic's Fernando Llorente went on the score the winning goal.
