The Iranian Football Association decided that four footballers that wore green armbands during the first half of the Iran VS South Korea game will receive lifetime bans. The green armbands are symbols of the supporters of Mousavi who was one of the contenders in the last Presidential Elections in Iran.

The players who wore the armbands did so supporting Mousavi during the World Cup Qualifying match which ended in a draw between South Korea and Iran and in which North Korea was able to classify for the 2010 World Cup for the first time in more than four decades.

The four footballers receiving the ban are: Ali Karimi, Mehdi Mahdavikia, Hosein Ka'abi, and Vahid Hashemian. The four received the ban in the form of "retirement".

Oh no, that's horrible!!  Really, at its base it's just mean and spiteful power-tripping.  I feel so bad for the banned players.

Let's hope that their 'retirement' doesn't include time in the prisons.

Good step taken by Iranian Football Association. Why these people involve politics in game.

That's shameful and not fair.

All of the players play in European Clubs.  So they're only retired in Iran.  I doubt that any of them will return to Iran anytime soon.

This is just textbook Iranian "business as usual"..the only difference is that technology has caught up with them now for the world to see. Are any of you really that suprised from the dynamic duo of Ahmedinejad / Khamenei?
