Soccer Player Takes Off Shorts In Match

Members of Italian club Catania found a creative way to score on a free kick: by dropping their shorts to distract the opposing goalie.  During a recent game against Torino, three players for the Sicilian Serie A club dropped their shorts around their knees to block goalkeeper Matteo Sereni's view of the free kick. Catania teammate Giuseppe Mascara poped the free kick into the back of the net while goalkeeper Sereni was unable to see anything but underpants. Catania ended up winning the game 3-2.

Some Italian soccer officials weren't too happy with the move, calling it "unsportsmanlike".

Afterward, former referees coordinator Paolo Casarin called the move “a trick that should not be tolerated anymore by the referees.”

Pietro Lo Monaco, Catania chief executive, disagreed, telling RAI state radio: “A trick? I wouldn’t say so. It’s up to the referee to decide if it should be penalized, otherwise I don’t see where the problem is. . . . Good taste is relative.”

Was the move in poor taste? Check out the video and photos and decide for yourself.

Creative... but I agree it is unsportsmanlike.

I'm thinking it would have gone in anyways, it was a great shot.
