Details have emerged about how Jared Remy and Alex Cyr, two security guards for the Boston Red Sox, were reportedly fired over steroid use last summer.

The Boston Globe reports that Alex Cyr and Jared Remy both admitted to using steroids, although they said they did not know anything about any Red Sox players using steroids. Remy, however, said he spoke often about steroids to David Ortiz's personal assistant.

Cyr and Remy's steroid use caught the attention of authorities last year after police found a vial of steroids in Cyr's car. Cyr told police he had purchased the drug from Jared Remy. Remy denied the accusation, although admitted to the Globe that he has used steroids.

Jared Remy also acknowledged a relationship with Felix Leopoldo Marquez Galice, the former personal assistant to Red Sox slugger David Ortiz. Marquez, who is facing deportation charges for using after hiding under an assumed name. The New York Times recently reported that Ortiz and former teammate Manny Ramirez both tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003.

Remy and Marquez - known by the nickname “Monga’’ - often chatted during their workouts at the Gold’s Gym on Lansdowne Street, and sometimes spotted each other while weightlifting, Remy said.

“He admitted taking steroids. We had conversations about steroids,’’ said Remy.

“We’d talk, ‘This one works for that. This one makes you bulky. This one makes you harder,’ ’’ Remy recalled.

Marquez’s lawyer, Thomas Kerner, disputed that account. “I have no idea on the credibility of Jared Remy, but my client has told me that he has no involvement in steroids.’’

An avid weightlifter, Jared Remy has not been shy about steroid use. Remy, who is the son of Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy, has been charged with assault several times in the past. He denies, however, having ever sold steroids.
