Jason David Frank, who played a Green Ranger on the 90s kids' show Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, is planning to compete as an MMA fighter. Frank is a sixth degree Black Belt, and just signed a deal with a new management team. Jason David Frank hopes to get in the ring pretty soon. The former Power Ranger is said to be training with UFC lightweight Melvin Guilllard. He has also signed with Suckerpunch Entertainment and hopes to get in the ring in the near future.
I was supposed to fight in 2007, but it fell through. In truth, I’ve wanted to put the work in until I’m ready. I know I have a target on my back. Everyone is going to want to beat up the Green Ranger. But I am no Kimbo: I’ve been training for a very long time. I wanted to get in there before, but I got injured. But I’ll be ready when the time comes.
Jason David Frank says that he'll need to work on his ground game before he gets into the octagon. Still, the former Power Ranger thinks he has what it takes to succeed in MMA. He also thinks that he could have a built-in audience.
As many fans as I have right now, if you look at the demographics of 18-34, which is the MMA demographic, I have that fan base from there. Looking at my age, a short-term career will be good for me because I will be able to give my fans what they want.
Of course, there are critics who say Jason David Frank's MMA career has nothing more than a publicity stunt. Maybe the former Green Power Ranger is trying to emulate former Major Leaguer Jose Canseco, who recently fought his first MMA match in Japan, no doubt for a quick paycheck and a few headlines.
Frank may just turn into a great fighter, though it's doubtful considering that he is 35 and worried about signing a management team before trying to schedule a fight. But this just furthers the notion that MMA is a fad, and can be used as a publicity stunt for someone with a flailing career. Considering that Frank's last acting job was a 2007 direct-to-video film called, "The Junior Defenders," he clearly needs a career boost.

Former Power Ranger, Jason David Frank, has recently made his move to martial arts to become an MMA fighter. This guy does not need a giant robot to take you down. A new convert into the MMA fold is one Jason David Frank, who is somewhat known as an actor. He isn't just a modern dance major who got on a karate show – he's the real deal, holding a 6th degree black belt, and he figured it's time to step up. It would be worth cash advance to see someone from the TV/film fighting world try the real thing.
