Jason Whitlock-Serena Williams: Whitlock Blasts Serena's Physique
Fox Sports columnist Jason Whitlock raised a few eyebrows over a recent piece on tennis star Serena Williams, in which he criticized her play on the court and her physique.
Whitlock went after Serena Williams for not fulfilling her promise. According to Whitlock, Serena should be one of the great athletes of all time, but has fallen short.
Unfortunately for us, she lacks the courage to fulfill her destiny.
She'd rather eat, half-ass her way through non-major tournaments and complain she's not getting the respect her 11-major-championships résumé demands.
She complains about being ranked No. 2 in the world when she's not bitching on Twitter or her blog about new rules that forbid Wimbledon players from eating in the locker room.
Seriously, how else can Serena fill out her size 16 shorts without grazing at her stall between matches?
He then goes on to say that Williams' lack of conditioning is hurting her game and her marketability.
Serena only has herself to blame. God gave Serena everything, including drop-dead looks.
She's chosen to smother some of it in an unsightly layer of thick, muscled blubber, a byproduct of her unwillingness to commit to a training regimen and diet that would have her at the top of her game year-round.
Sensing that he might be offending some of his female readers, Whitlock tries to make amends in a way that will likely only offend female readers even further.
BBWs — Big Booty Women — do not write me angry e-mails. I'm only knocking Serena's back pack because it's preventing her from reaching her full potential as an athletic icon. I am not fundamentally opposed to junk in the trunk, although my preference is a stuffed onion over an oozing pumpkin.
(A stuffed onion is a booty so round and tight that it brings tears to your eyes).
In case you're wondering, Jason Whitlock himself is not exactly the slimmest guy out there. Here's a photo of Jason Whitlock with a woman more to his liking.

Jason Whitlock is so far out of touch I'm surprised his skin isn't bleached, his nose is carved up, and his hair isn't died blonde.

His criticism may have elements of the truth about it, but he has no right to say this publicly. If she disappoints, say it once unemotionally, and that should be that.
Her whining and complaining may be a bit much, but this is an adult living out the fantasy of her father who pushed her and her sister to athletic stardom.
She needs to figure out what she wants in life and do it, and she needs to pay less attention to critics she doesn't know well and very, very personally.
I don't think that in the absence of any kind of proof we can assume that this has anything to do with race, per se.

Get real! He's got every right to tell it like it is, especially as a journalist....(gotta love that big booty though). Serena can reach higher heights in tennis but the commitment and sacrifice is not quite there...that's what he's saying, capece? Chiao.

1- Hey Roy, do everyone a favor and grow up. Of course there are elements of truth to what Whitlock has said. All you need to do is watch Serena play one tennis match. She is slow at approaching the ball, a perrenial whiner, and seems only to elevate her effort in big spots. Fortunately for her, her athleticism is so far-and-away better than everyone else's, her fat rear-end doesn't keep her from competing. If Serena worked as hard as Tiger has, does and will, on both his conditioning and his craft, she would be just as dominant.
2- Did you say a journalist has no right to say something publicly? Your view on journalistic free-speech seems more akin to China's or North Korea's than the U.S.
3- And Roy, I appreciate your insight into Serena's childhood and her relationship with her father, however, I'm not sure you have any idea what your're talking about. How do you know he pushed the sisters into athletic stardom? It appears as though they are doing quite well with their respective careers now.
4- Also, Jason Whitlock is also African American, so, although I cannot be too sure, race was not a contributing issue.
5- To wrap this up, you seem uneducated and lack any significant sports knowledge that could ever contribute to a conversation I will ever be a part of. Please never read and/or comment on any stories I choose to so with. Thank you.

Wow this truly is calling the kettle black. When I first got wind of this while listening to the Dan Patrick Show on the radio, I did not catch the last name of the writer but thought to myself "this must surely be a joke if Jason Whitlock wrote that piece" noting that in my opinion the guy probably hasn't seen the inside of a gym since grammer school. Sure enough he was the guy. I think that if HE spent more time in the gym, he would get a better circulation of oxygen which might help in making better decisions about what he chooses to write about. As it is, I believe his lack of conditioning limits his ability to be able to think on his feet and possibly be the best writer he could possibly be. What is that long time quote? "Those who can't, try to write about it"?

It seems like another case of black on black crime. There will always be those who should uplift others but instead rather destroy great accomplishments.
at 09:13 on July 8th, 2009
Who is he, besides a fat man, to criticize her? How can a fat person talk down about someones weight? How can a fat person criticize a highly accomplished athlete in regards to sports? This guy always writes dumb articles. And for those who say its not racist, I beg to differ. I have seen this guy speak on African American panels set up to uplift and inform young blacks. He always comes off as an Uncle Tom. I believe Etan Thomas had some harsh words for him after one meeting. His message is always negative. But this is what ESPN has done. Say something loud and controversial and you will be heard. This woman has won 11 majors....... and he says she is a slacker. LOL. What is he if he hasn't won one?

Here we go again....
You are stupid. Very, very stupid. The point of the matter is not how fat Jason Whitlock is, you invalid. He is not criticizing her for being fat, neophite. He is saying that she complains about not getting the respect she needs, about not being able to eat in the locker rooms at Wimbledon, and whines that she is ranked #2 in the world. Well, then, says Mr. Whitlock, "Work harder!"
You've won 11 majors, but had you worked as hard as the other players on tour, you would have won 15, maybe 17 by now. You would have also probably been considered the best womens tennis player of all time by the time you were in your late twenties. But, because you ate yourself stupid and choose not to work as hard as all of the other players on tour, you are stuck at #2 (not #1) in the world and with 11 major titles (not 15-17).
Also, before you start hinging yourself on Etan Thomas's every word, do a little backgroound check on him too. And, I love this Uncle Tom reference. Of course, "Uncle Toms" are blacks who tend to act overly responsible, "white" (according to blacks) and are always giving advice on how to live.
The truth of the matter is that Jason Whitlock values the intangibles--the character based issues. He doesn't think someone who won 11 titles is any better of a person than someone who writes sports-based news articles. This would also be why he was critical of Steve McNair for abandoning his children, not championing him as a great person for having performed well on a football field--regardless of his untimely passing.
It becomes the same argument as Michael Jackson's controversially celebrated death. The (bankrupt) city of Los Angeles spent over one million dollars to organize and execute the services held for Michael Jackson, and black civil rights leaders are pleading to have Jackson's discolored mugg put on a stamp.
Apparently these civil rights leaders were chryogenically frozen during the late eighties through the late nineties when Jackson became the most eccentric celebrity in America, if not the world. Oh yeah, and he also enjoyed treating kids like scratch and sniff stickers.
Let's just take one instance--Jackson was accused of fondling a young boy after giving him alcohol in his "Neverland Ranch". Out of court, Jackson settled with the family, giving them a reported $25 million. Why pay (regardless of net worth) $25 million if you are innocent? That doesn't exactly scream "innocence".
Also, black leaders of the free world, keep in mind Michael Jackson died his dark skin, trimmed his big nose, straightened his once afro'ed hair, married a white woman, and had kids that were not biologically his, just to make sure they weren't even one half shade darker than the ivories on a piano.
Anyway, I apologize for the tangent. Consider yourselves educated.

This short, fat, round butterball is just jealous. He probably tried to hit on her and she rejected him. I know Serena is laughing all the way to the bank.....she has enough money to work when she dam well please and who doesnt like it can kiss her butt. Jason (butterball) you workout and lose weight and get a life.....................
at 11:28 on July 9th, 2009
See, now I'm pissed. It is someone like you that is so uneducated that they are able to state an opinion and then counter that very opinion within a matter of only a few short sentences. And, the best part is, you don't even have the wherewithall to know you even did so.
You just got done say that Jason Whitlock has no business talking down to Serena because she is laughing all of the way to the bank, and "has enough money to work when she dam well please". (I apologize to all of you who had to read that illiterate sentence again)
Whitlock said the exact same thing you did. Of course she has enough money, that is why she has the luxury of being lazy. She has enough resources at her disposal to not have to exert the same effort other, less talented players do.
What Whitlock is asserting is that if she wants to be the one that can complain about every last circumstance that she isn't happy with, that fat slob better get her armor on, because there is a lot to criticism to be thrown her way. If she wants to complain about being number 2 in the world, and says she doesn't get any respect, then look in the mirror (or 2, as one may not accomodate her every valumptuous ((which means fat)) curve) to find the party responsible.
at 11:36 on July 9th, 2009
Why is anyone surprised? Whitlock defines the word whore. He knows by saying outlandish thing after outlandish thing he will attract a great deal of attention to himself and obviously reap the benefits of this $$$$$......He reminds me of the type of thoughtless (no talent) writing that you read in the National Enquirer. The Steve McNaire crap he has been shoveling is what I expect from him. If he had any talent as a writer he would not bend over like a $5 toothless crack Ho!
I am in no way surprised at his poo poo.......that's all he does.

Not to take anything away from Steffi Graf, but Monica Seles was the top women's tennis player heading into 1993, having already collected 9 Grand Slams singles titles and still in her teens. In January of 1993, she defeated Graf in the final of the Australian Open, her third win in four Grand Slam titles with Graf. Then in April she was stabbed by a deranged German fan. She was out of tennis for two years and only won one more Grand Slam singles titles in her career.
Whitlock knows that Graf, through no fault of her own, benefited from Seles's tragedy, but he's going to use Graf's statistics to paint Serena as "lazy" by comparsion, which he knows is not true. He's a big fat idiot.

He is so sick and laden with self esteem issues. Understand the frame of mind a person has to be in, to demean a world class athlete who has reached the top of her sport. He sees her getting all this attention - professionally, internationally, multiculturally- and all he can do is whine.

I am an African American that's going to give you my opinion on Serena.
First, I want to state that I know that readers are far more critical when they read articles then they would be if they actually hear you state something.
Second, I don’t personally know Serena or Jason Whitlock
Third, if I make a statement about African Americans (AA), it does not mean that other groups of people are excluded.
Fourth, I understand that over 40% of readers are already asking why is it necessary for me to state my nationality.
Fifth, A lot of AA appreciate seeing AA in sports other than the NBA, NFL and MLB, innately we not only want to see them compete at a high lever, but also want them to perform with dignity and absolutely 100% free of drama. Majority of AA will change their adoration for an AA athlete or celebrity at the drop of a dime once they hear the athlete or celebrity speak (please don’t confuse speak with the word sing). It is intuitively obvious for the most casual observer that a lot of AA athletes and celebrities have an extremely high opinion of their crafts. If you are being interviewed and you remotely sound as if you are full of yourself, critical of others, over exaggerate, loud, slaphappy, immature, loquacious, Uncle Tom'ish, or inarticulate, you will loose a majority of your fan base and quickly start collecting
Six, over 30% of readers are saying, "Get to the point", so I want to start first with my opinion on Serena. Most AA men that I have talked to about women state that they prefer women with round booties oppose to flat, some say that it does not matter how large it is as long as it is round, cellulite free and waist to hip ratio is at least a 3:5 ratio, and it is pretty damn obvious that Serena will not have any problem meeting this criteria. Even though a lot of men might experience a lascivious or salacious feeling when googling unfiltered images of Serena, it does not stop us from wondering just how good she would be if she shed some of her steatopygic (excess fat in the buttocks area) figure. A person does not have to envy Serena to realize that her oversize booty and knockers have to have a negative factor on her from being the best athlete that she can be. Both Jason Whitlock and I are both fans of Serena, but just cause she is one of the best female tennis player in the world still does not mean that she could not easily be three times better if she shed some weight. He is just trying to motivate her. I am sure that she works out as much as a sister Venus. Sometimes it takes an extra effort for some people to shed pounds, Venus and some of the other female tennis player may not have this problem. Serena's weight has been listed around 145 lbs since she has became a professional. I saw an image of her standing besides Usher, he probably weighs at least 155, and she made him look like a little 11 yr when standing by him, I am sure she weighs between 185-205, it still looks good on her though. So Serena, you are thick as hell right now, but if the winning purses that you receive now is not enough for you to loose weight, you better enjoy all the attention while it last, 5 years after your career, you will be hiding in the back of a nightclub sipping on a drink waiting for the electric slide to come on so you can at least get a dance.

This is ridiculous, how dare he talk about someone's weight. Serena is not fat at all, and she is not hear to please him or anyone else. I'm so tired of the media going after Black Women because we are not a size 5. Get over it we are not built like white or asian women. I don't hear them saying they need curves or grow taller. It's always a double standard. Serena, you are amazing don't let anyone tell you differently. God Bless everyone, and love yourselves for you.

I'm a big fan of the Williams sisters, but I believe Whitlock is right.

All you gotta do is go back and look at pictures of her in 2003 -2005 ... she has seriously been " grazin'" since then ... Still looks sex ... but fat
at 15:26 on September 4th, 2009
i do not know this guy but it just seems to me that he has no idea what he is talking about. Serena williams is not fat at all, yes she has a huge ass and voluptious breast but her stomach is one of the flatest i have seen, what god gave her is an amazing talent she is a very muscular woman which would obviosuly push up her weight. serena williams would have had more majors if she would have been injured less and did not have to deal with the death of her sister also. yes she says it herself she is lazy but not may women on the tour work harder than her and when on her game is unbeatable. she does not play as many tournaments around the clock because she does not feel she needs to and this has given her and venus longevity. whereas, the fitter justine henin retired younger than serena nd never even got close 2 11 grand slams so the fact that serena does not play a lot of tournaments and is not a stick just shows how much of a great athlete she is and shows how bad the womens game is. serena has never played alot of tournaments and it has worked well for her she has made the most money of any female athlete ever and continues to dominate her sport. she quite easily the number 1 player in womens tennis and she is not scared to talk about it. and her being a fuller woman just shows the world that to be an iconic athlete you do not have to starve yourself or take drugs. god bless serena williams and her amazing derrier.
