Masoli Pleads Guilty: Suspended For 2010 Season

University of Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and wide receiver Garrett Embry pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree burglary in Lane County Circuit Court on Friday. The pair was sentenced to 12 months probation, 140 hours of community service to be served within eight months and a fine of $5,000 in shared restitution.

Perhaps, the toughest measure for Masoli comes in being suspended by head coach Chip Kelly for the entire 2010 season. The announcement was made by the head coach after Masoli's court appearance. It is not clear if Embry will face suspension as well. Masoli will retain his scholarship and may use a redshirt for the season.

The players were charged for thefts from on-campus fraternity house on January 24 of this year. Among stolen items were two laptops and a guitar.

Masoli is a star player with Oregon Ducks. He appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 2009. The QB was also named to many trophies and player of the week lists last season for his solid performance. Masoli was one of the candidates for the Heisman Trophy, one of the biggest awards in collegiate football.

Masoli is coming off a terrific season in leading the Ducks to the Rose Bowl, as he threw for 2,147 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 668 yards and 13 scores.
