Freestyle motocross star Jeremy Lusk has died from head injuries suffered in a weekend crash during the X Knights competition in Costa Rica.

A spokesman for Lusk's Metal Mulisha team said the California native died Monday night at the Calderon Hospital in the Costa Rican capital of San Jose. It is believed Lusk underwent a lengthy operation to treat a subdural hematoma.

Lusk, who was competing with the Metal Mulisha team, was trying to perform a Hart Attack backflip when he landed on his head. Lusk had a similar crash during the 2007 X Games but walked away unharmed. The following year, Lusk won a gold medal at the 2008 X Games.

Jeremy Lusk was 24. He is survived by his wife Lauren Lusk.

Here is the Jeremy Lusk death video.
