NASCAR says that driver Jeremy Mayfield has tested positive for methamphetamine for a second time. The organization is asking a federal judge to reinstate a ban that would prevent him from racing.
Mayfield was suspended indefinitely in May for failing a random drug test. A federal judge lifted the ban, but Mayfield has not raced since then.
In a U.S. District Court filing requested a reinstatement of the ban, NASCAR included a positive result from a July 6 random test as well as an affidavit from Mayfield's stepmother, who claims she saw Mayfield use methamphetamine at least 30 times over seven years.
Meanwhile, the last member of Jeremy Mayfield's racing team has resigned, saying that is unlikely that Mayfield will race again.
