Court officials say a verdict has been reached in the trial of former Penn State football coach, Jerry Sandusky, and a verdict was expected to be read Friday night.

Jurors ended their first day of deliberations around 9:30 p.m. Thursday without reaching a verdict. They mentioned to the judge that they would like to re-hear the testimony of Mike McQueary, a former assistant coach who claimed he saw Sandusky sodomizing a boy in an university shower and Dr. Jonathan Dranov, who talked with McQueary after that alleged incident.

The jury in the sex abuse trial of former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky has reached a verdict, court officials announced.

Sandusky and his lawyers along with prosecutors have been summoned to court to hear the verdict.

The jury of seven women and five men were sequestered during deliberations.

Sandusky is charged with 48 counts of sex abuse against 10 boys he allegedly groomed through a charity he operated. If convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison.
During 30 hours of testimony over two weeks, the jury heard from eight accusers, one eyewitness, a string of character witnesses testifying to Sandusky's character, and members of the police who investigated the case.

Two people the jury did not hear from include Sandusky himself, who waived his right to testify, and Sandusky's adopted son Matt. Matt Sandusky was one of his father's most ardent supporters following Sandusky's November arrest, but contacted prosecutors at the end of last week saying he was, in fact, a victim of his father's abuse and would be willing to testify.

The jury was expected to announce the verdict sometime after 9:45 p.m. ET.

The courtroom will be closed by the time the jury and attorneys assemble for the verdict, and no one will be allowed to leave until court is adjourned, the judge said in a court order. The verdict will be read count by count. Media are barred from transmitting any results of the verdict until adjournment, with the judge promising sanctions for any reporter or media organization violating his order.
