Jesus 'Jesse' Cruz Died After Collapsing During a Match at Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday

Jesus Cruz, 20, was pronounced dead on Saturday after he had collapsed during a match around 11:33pm according to the Whittier Daily News. KTLA News reports that he collapsed at 11:30am.

"He was treated on the scene by the Mt. SAC athletic trainer and by paramedics, and then transported to San Dimas Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead," Rio Hondo College President Ted Martinez, Jr., said in a written statement.

He had been wrestling at the school for two years and his death comes as a shock to students and staff.

"Jesus was the epitome of the ideal student-athlete," Martinez said. "In addition to being an excellent student who maintained a high GPA, he was a Community College All American, captain of the RHC wrestling team and a superb leader."

Cruz's body will undergo an autopsy at some point this week, but his death was initiallyy ruled to be natural.
