NP Rank:
Jeter records 1,270th hit in Yankee Stadium
I think this is a very impressive record. Derek Jeter recorded his 1,270th hit at Yankee Stadium to surpass Lou Gehrig for the hits record at Yankee Stadium. The stadium is one of if not the most elusive stadium in the world and with all of the history and great players to play there, Jeter has accomplished something really special. Records are meant to be broken, but this one will last forever as the Stadium will turn into a pile of ash next year. Greatest Yankee of all time? Quite possibly.
Derek Jeter got to first base and heard the cheers. He had broken Lou Gehrig's record for hits at Yankee Stadium with his first-inning single, and the sellout crowd of 52,558 kept on applauding. Finally, after close to a minute, Jeter took off his helmet and waved it.
"I'm always a little uncomfortable in those situations," Jeter said.
Jeter's hit off Gavin Floyd was his 1,270th in the 85-year-old ballpark, scheduled to close Sunday. But the skidding Yankees, who almost surely will miss the playoffs for the first time since 1993, lost to the Chicago White Sox 6-2 Tuesday night.

Jeter before his third hit in the September 13th, 2008 game against Tampa Bay, the first game in a double header. He hit the first pitch, so I was only able to get shots of him going to bat and then on first.

Jeter at Safeco in Seattle. I believe he got his 1,000th career RBI in this game when he hammered a home run into the left field bleachers about 3 sections over from where I was sitting.

I took this pic in September of 2006. It was my first and only trip to Yankee Stadium. It was the Yankees vs the Twins.

I took hundreds of shots of the All Star and Hall of Famers at the All Star Parade in NYC. This one of Jeter is one of the best I got and one of my favorites.

On the Sept 12-14 weekend series with the Rays, which turned out to be Sept 13-14 due to the Friday night rainout, with the Yankees out of the playoff hunt, Derek Jeter makes every at bat count, as he has for the last decade+, collecting 3 hits in each of three games. He is the greatest Yankee I have ever seen play the game. Thus picture, unfortunately, was taken July 28th in an Oriole blowout of Mussina and the Yankees.

This photo depicts Derek Jeter hitting a home run at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, September 14, 2008, against the Tampa Bay Rays. The home run was hit in the 5th inning with no one and nobody out off of pitcher was Edwin Jackson. This hit tied Jeter with Lou Gehrig for the all time hit record for a Yankee at Yankee Stadium.
Alex Rodriguez had a grand slam and Jason Giambi hit a two-run home run also in the game. The Yankees won 8-4 with Mariano Rivera earning his 35th save of the season.
