Jim Harbaugh Replaces Mike Singletary As  San Francisco 49ers New Head Coach, Leaves Standford University Football Program

The news is offical, Jim Harbaugh will be the new head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, replacing former head coach Mike Singletary who was fired from the job.

The San Jose Mercury News broke the story via a confirmation text message from San Franciso 49ers President, Jed York.

49ers owner Jed York now confirming the deal with Harbaugh. Via text-message: "It's done."

It will not be a major move for Stanford's Jim Harbaugh as he is moving just down the highway from Paolo Alto to San Francisco.

Harbaugh's decision ends a week-long dalliance in which the Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos and the University of Michigan all were connected to him in searches for new coaches.

Harbaugh is coming off a 12-1 season with Stanford that he capped on Monday night with a win against Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl.
