Seattle Seahawks head coach Jim Mora has been fired after just 1 year on the job. ESPN is reporting that USC Trojans head coach Pete Carroll is leaving the USC Trojans to head up the Seattle Seahawks..

"This team, more importantly this community, means so much to me that it hurts not being able to see this through," Mora said in a team-issued statement. "I am disappointed I did not get the chance to complete my contract. This is a tough business that sometimes demands immediate gratification." (source: espn)

Reportedly, Jim Mora did not expect to be fired and it came as a shock.  Presumably, the Seattle Seahawks, head coach thought a 5-11 record with a four game losing streak at the end of the season was sufficient to keep his job.

As for Mora's touted replacement Pete Carroll well it is unclear exactly where that stands. Certainly, Pete Carroll's name is mentioned often when it comes to NFL head coaching jobs.

Officially, Carroll says he is not interested but ESPN quotes an unamed source close to Carroll

"You're about to see a big headline that shakes up the major college football world," in reference to the Seahawks' development. The Seahawks did not confirm but also did not deny that Carroll is a leading candidate to become coach.

If the deal does go through this would be Pete Carroll's second trip to the NFL. Before the USC Trojans he coached the NY Jets and the New England Patriots. His NFL record was slightly above .500.

Seattle does have cash to spend so whoever ends up there will be well paid. If you watch the video ESPN is basically saying Pete Carroll ending up with the Seattle Seahawks is essentially a done deal
