Legendary boxer Smokin' Joe Frazier was the subject of the latest Twitter-fueled death rumor. The phrase "RIP Joe Frazier" took Twitter by storm, after a few twitchy readers misinterpreted reports on Joe Frazier's health.

Joe Frazier is in hospice care, suffering from liver cancer. The 67-year-old's status was assured when he became the first man to beat Muhammad Ali. For his part, Ali said, "Joe is a fighter and a champion, and I am praying he is fighting now."

The rumor was given added weight by an erroneous story published by the West Australian, which has since been removed. The West Australian cited nebulous "reports", which translates to "we saw it on Twitter and did not verify whether or not Joe Frazier was alive".
