Joe Sakic Injured In Freak Snowblower Accident
Colorado Avalanche center Joe Sakic broke three of his fingers in a freak snowblower accident outside his Colorado home. Sakic, who was always on the sidelines due to a back injury, also suffered tendon damage.
Sakic reached inside the "auger" of the snowblower to remove snow. The machine's power was off when he tried to fix it, according to the team. According to the consumer products safety commission, snowblower injuries are common.
Sakic underwent surgery after the accident. A spokesman for the Avalanche denied reports that Sakic needed to have one of his fingers reattached.
Sakic is expected be out of the Avalanche lineup for three months. He will also undergo treatment for his back while recovering from surgery on his hand. Sakic has been sidelined twice this season due to back problems that stem from an injury that occurred while lifting weights.
Sakic's snowblower accident was the only odd mishap in sports this week. Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose missed practice Monday after slicing open his left arm while trying to cut an apple in bed.
