John Bachar Death: Legendary Free Solo Climber Dies

Noted free solo climber John Bachar died Sunday after falling from Dike Wall, a popular climbing area near Mammoth Lakes.

There were no witnesses to Bachar's death, but several climbers nearby heard him fall and got to him him in less than a minute. Rescue workers also responded quickly, transporting him to Mammoth Hospital, where he died that day. 

Bachar was a legend among free solo climbers. The 51-year-old also worked as  Director of Design of Acopa International LLC, a footwear manufacturer that produces rock-climbing shoes.
