Former Major League pitcher John Wetteland has been hospitalized in Denton, Texas. Police took Wetteland to  Denton Regional Medical Center Thursday afternoon after police were called to his house. Police have said that John Wetteland was taken to hospital for a mental health issue.

Police said they arrived at Wetteland's home after receiving a call about a person who may have been suicidal. Upon their arrival, Wetteland came out of his house telling police that he needed help.

If indeed John Wetteland tried to commit suicide, it may have marked the second such incident this week. On Tuesday, German goalkeeper Robert Enke committed suicide.

John Wetteland spend more than a decade in the Majors, pitching for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Montreal Expos, New York Yankees, and Texas Rangers. In 1996, Wetteland was named the World Series MVP for his role coming out of the bullpen with the Yankees.
