Jordan Wiener throws no-hitter after Swine flu killed his father
Jordan Wiener, son of Mitchell Wiener, the High School assistant principal who passed away from the swine flu threw a no-hitter just one day after burying his father.
Pitching for Robert F. Kennedy High School, Jordan and his teammates wore MW on their caps, the initials for Mitchell Wiener. Wiener pitched five innings and recorded 14 strikeouts on route to a 10-0 mercy rule win against Prospect Heights in a playoff game.
Mitchell Wiener was the first victim of the swine flu in New York.
Hundreds of mourners, including 400 students, gathered at Sinai Chapels in Queens on Wednesday to .remember Mitchell Wiener, three days after he died at age 55. He was the country's sixth swine flu fatality.
On Wednesday, Jordan sobbed while quoting from the college application essay he wrote about his .father:
"Although my dad would look awful ridiculous in tights and a cape, he had the elements of a hero. Mitchell Wiener is the rock of my family."
