Josh Barnett Tests Positive For Banned Substance
MMA fighter Josh Barnett has reportedly tested positive for a banned substance, forcing him to back out of his August 1 fight against Affliction heavyweight champ Fedor Emelianenko. Barnett reportedly failed a drug test, which means the California State Athletic Commission will not allow him to take part in the planned Fedor vs Barnett fight.
The Affliction Trilogy card is still expected to take place, although it is not clear who will face Fedor Emelianenko, a Russian heavyweight who is considered one of the best fighters in the world. It has been rumored that Vitor Belfort, Bobby Lashley, or Fabricio Werdum might square off against Fedor Emelianenko. Early reports suggest that Belfort is the front-runner and will likely get the nod.
This isn't the first time that Josh Barnett has failed a drug test. Barnett tested positive for anabolic steroids following his win over Randy Couture at UFC 36. Barnett denied taking any banned substances, but was still suspended temporarily by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
