Anthony Joshua Beat Ivan Dychko 13-11 Heavyweight Boxing Gold Medal London Olympics 2

ANTHONY JOSHUA had an anxious wait before being confirmed as the THIRD member of Team GB’s boxing squad to strike gold.

Following three action-packed rounds at London’s ExCel, super-heavyweight Joshua was given the nod over Italy’s Roberto Cammarelle via countback after the judges scored the bout 18-18.

Not surprisingly, the home crowd went wild as the Londoner celebrated in the middle of the ring to round off Britain’s best performance in the sweet science at a Games since 1920.

The Italians immediately appealed the decision — leaving Londoner Joshua to discover if he had followed team-mates Nicola Adams and Luke Campbell in winning gold.

But the appeal was rejected and the 21-year-old proudly held one of his giant fists to his chest as the national anthem boomed around the arena with him on top of the podium.
