Just another mistake: Redskins are after Cutler

Don't believe the liars people who run the Washington Redskins -- owner Dan Snyder is definitely pursuing a trade to acquire disgruntled Denver Broncos QB Jay Cutler

The Redskins are acting with urgency in their pursuit of Cutler but it doesn't appear the Broncos have interest in Jason Campbell. Consequently, even while the Redskins may be willing to offer two first-rounders for Cutler, they are trying to gauge interest elsewhere for Campbell. If the Broncos do deal with the Redskins, it would give them control of the 12th and 13th picks in the draft.

The Broncos are demanding 2 first round picks for Cutler, though that's just a negotiating tactic. They'll take less -- as little less as they can manage. Nevertheless, Snyder and the Redskins have a history of overpaying the Broncos in trades [Clinton Portis, Jason Campbell], so don't be surprised if Snyder starts waving around Washington's first round pick this season [13th overall] and the team's first round pick next season, as well. We know the Redskins regard the draft as an annoyance, so getting rid of next year's pick would relieve them of the problem of doing so later.
The Redskins don't have a second round pick this year, but they do have a third round pick so it is conceivable that Snyder would trade virtually the team's entire 2009 draft for Jay Cutler. The Redskins won't be able to get a first round pick for Campbell, but they could trade him, get draft picks in return and then ship those to Denver, along with the 13th overall pick, in return for Cutler.
My view is that none of this is surprising. The Redskins are always Champions of the Offseason and Dan Snyder has always regarded headlines as more important than victories. [Or perhaps he simply doesn't distinguish between the two.] It's a terrible decision to trade the team's first round pick and more for Cutler when the Redskins have so many weaknesses on the offensive line [LT, LG, depth], the defensive line [both DE positions and depth], linebacker [both OLB positions and depth] and pretty much no cap space to left to do much about it. Nevertheless, terrible, short-sighted decisions are pretty much par for the course with Dan Snyder's Redskins.
Every team in the NFL is eager to make a trade with the Redskins, since Snyder and Vinny Cerrato [Snyderrato!] make such bad deals. Just as every player agent is eager to get his players to sign with the Redskins because Washington usually outbids other teams by a gargantuan amount.
It remains to be seen whether or not the Redskins trade for Cutler or some other team is able to put together a more attractive deal for the Broncos. In any case, don't believe the Redskins management when they insist they are not after Cutler. They are. And that should be enough to make any educated fan realize it is a mistake.
