Karen Cunagin Sypher Found Guilty on Six Counts of Extortion

Karen Cunagin Sypher was found guilty of extorting University of Louisille basketball coach Rick Pitino. Despite the prosecution's wishes, Sypher was released on her own recognizance until sentencing, which takes place on October 27.

The lurid, drawn-out saga has been going on for a year, since Rick Pitino admitted to having an affair with Sypher.

Neither Karen Sypher nor Rick Pitino came out of the trial looking good, but the case hinged on prosecutors proving that Sypher intended to extort Pitino, and that she lied about his having raped her.

Sypher showed no signs of emotion as the verdict was read. Her son, Jacob, wouldn’t talk to reporters, but as he and his mother were leaving, he told prosecutors: “Thanks for taking my mother away, guys.” He then clapped sarcastically.
