June 28, 2012- Kevin Durant the superstar forward of the Oklahoma City Thunder has emerged as one of the 2 or 3 best basketball players on the planet.

The City of Baltimore and the State of Maryland has proclaimed June 28, 2012 as "Kevin Durant Day" to honor the 5th Anniversary of Durant being drafted into the NBA.

He was the 2nd overall pick of the 2007 NBA Draft by the then Seattle Supersonics on June 28, 2007.

The 2012 NBA Draft is being held today at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

Kevin was born in Washington, DC in 1988. He grew up with his family Suitland, Md. He attended the University of Texas and became the first freshman to be named National Player of the Year in 2007.

During the NBA Lockout last-year on August 30, 2011 Kevin Durant scored 59 points on LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony in an exhibition game played at Morgan State University in Baltimore.

Derrick E. Vaughan of the NBHHCM (National Basketball & Hip-Hop Culture Month) Foundation proposed to the City of Baltimore and State of Maryland that Kevin Durant has a day proclaimed in his honor.

Vaughan says, "Kevin is a true role model for many of the youth in the Baltimore/Washington D.C area. He has a love for his home-town state and he should be honored in his own backyard. Durant will go down as one of the 10-12 best players ever when his career is over".
